Three decades of crisis response, intelligence, and innovation.
Response24's roots go back to 1990, when our founding director left New Scotland Yard to begin building crisis response programmes for Lloyd's underwriters. What followed was three decades of operational experience, technology development, and product innovation — culminating in the independent specialist firm operating today.
Built in the Lloyd's market, from the ground up.
In 1990, Rupert Reid left the Metropolitan Police Specialist Operations Command — Criminal Intelligence and Organised Crime at New Scotland Yard — to apply the discipline and structured thinking of specialist policing to a different kind of crisis: the complex, high-stakes incidents faced by organisations operating in an increasingly unstable world.
The early years were spent building crisis response programmes directly for Lloyd's underwriters — ACE Europe, AIG, Catlin, Markel, Munich Re, Novae, QBE, Talbot, and MS Amlin among them. Each programme was built from the ground up: response methodology, decision frameworks, incident management processes, and the relationships with specialists in the field that make the difference when a crisis actually occurs.
By the early 2000s, the team was also at the frontier of a new challenge: how to use emerging technology to make intelligence and crisis response faster, more structured, and more accessible. In 2001, the founding team launched one of the first commercially available online global risk information portals — giving insurers and their clients access to real-time security intelligence years before this became standard practice.
TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATIONFrom intelligence portals to incident management platforms.
The years that followed brought a series of product innovations — each one addressing a gap in how the insurance market supported its clients through a crisis. A prepaid Mastercard enabling remote loading of emergency funds to victims of critical incidents in the field. Intelligence portal adoption by international Accident & Health insurers. Indemnified response services extended to the highest tiers of major international card programmes.
In 2010, Gareth Sephton joined the team — bringing corporate intelligence and political risk analysis capability that deepened Response24's analytical reach across Africa, the Middle East, and other complex operating environments. By 2012, the business was incorporated as Response24 — a specialist security management and product development company with a proprietary technology base and a track record built across three decades of Lloyd's market work.
INDEPENDENCE AND GROWTHRe-established as an independent specialist in 2023.
From 2016, Response24 operated as an in-house resource for a major security group — a period that allowed the team to deepen its technology infrastructure and expand its operational capability while continuing to serve the insurance market.
In 2023, Response24 relaunched as a fully independent entity — returning to its roots as a specialist crisis response firm working directly with Lloyd's underwriters, MGAs, and brokers. In 2024, the company was contracted by a leading specialty insurer to provide crisis management and response services across its Product Contamination & Recall book — the beginning of a direct, contracted relationship with the Lloyd's market at scale.
Today, Response24 operates across multiple specialty insurance lines — Kidnap & Ransom, Political Violence & Terrorism, Active Assailant, Product Contamination & Recall, Crisis Concierge, Specie & Fine Art, PA & Travel, and Cyber — with a partner network spanning Sub-Saharan Africa, North America, and global reverse logistics. The proprietary Connect platform provides every contracted client with real-time intelligence and structured incident management from day one.
